The short answer

Lease if you want a newer BMW on a clock. Finance if you want to own it.

A typical lease stays inside the 4-year/50,000-mile factory warranty and included scheduled maintenance for 3 years or 36,000 miles. Finance if you want your name on the title, no mileage cap, and you are comfortable owning the car after the factory warranty. Protection products are optional.

Included maintenance

Your lease comes with its maintenance covered

Every new BMW comes with BMW Ultimate Care, which covers scheduled maintenance for the first 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first, at any authorized BMW center. A typical 3-year lease fits inside that window, so your routine service is taken care of for the whole lease. If you buy and plan to keep your BMW longer, ask us about BMW Ultimate Care+ to extend your maintenance coverage.

Lease if you…

A newer BMW for a set time and miles.

You pay for the years you drive, not the whole car.

  • A set term and mileage
  • Your contract sets the miles
  • Usually still inside the factory warranty and included maintenance
  • Comfortable with an inspection when you return it
  • Often a lower monthly payment than a similar loan — BMW’s framing, not a quote from this store
Finance if you…

Your name on the title.

No mileage cap. No inspection when you are done. You can personalize the car.

  • You own it
  • No extra wear or mile bills at the end
  • BMW Financial Services lists terms up to 72 months
  • Past year four, a vehicle service contract is worth talking about

Louisiana tax

You pay tax on the payments, not the whole car.

Louisiana taxes lease payments, not the whole sticker. When you buy, tax follows where the car lives. We will run the numbers on your deal.

A simple example (not a quote from this store)

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau walks lease math as the amount you are paying down, divided by months. If that amount is $12,000 over 36 months, the depreciation piece is $333 a month before finance charges and tax. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau

Questions

FAQ

Should I lease or finance a BMW in Louisiana and in Baton Rouge?

Lease if you want a newer BMW for a set time and miles, usually still inside the 4-year/50,000-mile factory warranty. Finance if you want your name on the title, no mileage cap, and no inspection when you are done. Consumer Reports’ rule of thumb: if you plan to keep a car six years or more, buying is almost always the better money.

How many miles can I drive on a BMW lease?

Your contract is the number that counts. A higher yearly limit costs more each month. Some customers can buy extra miles later. Ask us to show the miles on your deal.

Who handles BMW leases and loans?

Leases and many purchase loans run through BMW Financial Services. You can manage an account in the My BMW app or at BMW Financial Services My Account.

How is a BMW lease taxed in Louisiana?

Louisiana taxes the lease payments, not the full price of the car. Local tax follows where the car lives. The leasing company may also be billed a personal property tax, which can be added to your payment.

Can I buy my leased BMW?

Yes, at any time. Ask for a payoff quote through BMW Financial Services or the My BMW app. If you buy it, you are not billed for extra wear or extra miles at turn-in.

What happens when the lease ends?

You can trade up to a new BMW, buy the car, or return it. BMW Financial Services offers a complimentary pre-inspection. The estimate shows up in My BMW.
